Assistant Shop Manager: 3 years, starting January 2010
working close consultation with the Shop Manager, the post holder is responsible for assisting in the development of the shop so as to maintain its production of revenue and to ensure that the commitments and ideas of The Iona Community are reflected in the literature and crafts sold. • Experience in the retail sector, cash handling and face to face customer service is beneficial to this post
MacLeod Centre Cook, up to1 Year, starting January 2010.
The Cooks are responsible for heading a team of voluntary staff, which provides meals for the staff and guests in the Abbey and MacLeod Centres. They work closely with the Hospitality Team Leader in planning meals, ordering supplies and keeping within the allocated budget. Catering by the Iona Community on Iona attempts to be environmentally friendly, avoiding waste and while providing mainly vegetarian food tries to be sensitive to the tastes of the guests staying in the centres. • Previous experience in cooking for large numbers, • Ability to manage, support and train a small team of volunteers and • Well developed organisational ability are genrally needed for this post
Housekeepers (2 posts), up to 1 year, starting January 2010.
The Housekeeper is responsible for heading a team of voluntary staff, which keeps the Centres tidy, welcoming and prepared for the guests who stay in it. They work closely with the Hospitality Team Leader in ordering supplies of cleaning materials and table supplies, maintaining equipment and keeping within the allocated budget. The Iona Community attempts to be environmentally friendly and this is reflected in the range of cleaning substances used and in the efforts to reduce waste and recycle where possible. • Well developed organisational ability, • Ability to adapt to changing situations, • Good time management skills and • Ability to manage, support and train a small team of volunteers would be needed for this post.
Hospitality Team: Support Worker, up to 1 year, starting January 2010.
The Hospitality Team Support Worker works with the Hospitality team, supporting the domestic work of both centres. The role involves developing a familiarity and competence with tasks relating to cooking and housekeeping. This allows the Hospitality Team Support Worker to cover or formally deputise for colleagues, as well as to contribute to the general staff complement of the Hospitality team. • Well developed organisational ability, • Good time management skills, • Previous experience in cooking for large numbers is beneficial and • Ability to manage, support and train a small team of volunteers would be useful qualities for doing this job.
Sacristan -Programme Support: up to ten months, starting January 2010
The Sacristan is responsible for the stewardship and caretaking of the Abbey Church, the Michael Chapel and St Oran’s Chapel, and for ensuring that all the necessary preparations are made to enable the conduct of public worship. The sacristan is also responsible for supervising the volunteer staff attached to the Abbey Church. As a part of the programme team, the Sacristan also assists with the delivery of the guest programme for the Abbey and MacLeod Centres. • Well developed organisational skills, • Flexibility to adapt and respond to changing situations, • Ability and confidence to develop and lead workshops on a range of topics, • Ability to supervise and support volunteer staff and • Experience taking part in the leadership/organisation of worship would be needed for this role
Centres Resource Coordinator: 3 Year post on as a non-resident post, starting early January 2010
The 6 strong Resource & Retail Team is responsible between them for providing a range of services for other Resident Group Members and Guests. These responsibilities include key aspects of property and maintenance, IT, staffing, finance, retail, administration and welcome. For this role applicants should: • have proven management, organisational, and interpersonal skills. • be able to prioritise and manage a varied and demanding workload • have proven administrative skills. • be a good communicator • be used to providing a service for staff, guests and/or external service providers.
Closing Date 9th July, Interviews week commencing 3rd August.
Applicants must have relevant experience in any of the above areas of work, be able to work as part of a team and have a flexible and open outlook to their work, and share the Iona Community’s Christian commitment.
Posts are offered with board and lodgings and a monthly allowance. The Centre Resource Coordinator may be considered as a non-resident group post offered without accommodation but a salary commensurate with post.

Iona Resident Group based posts:
Resident Group posts are generally offered on a fixed term basis of between 10 months and 3 years. All posts regardless of the duties are offered at the same monthly allowance, plus full board and lodgings, and relocation assistance. A holiday allowance is also offered depending on the lenght of appointment as well as a generous pension provision.
We ask that applicants be in sympathy with the aims and purposed of the Iona Community and recognise that living in community is not simply doing a job but sharing in common life responsibilities which includes welcoming guests, building community and daily worship where appropriate.
Notes for applicants for Iona & Camas Resident Group posts:

All Iona & Camas Resident Group posts are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and appointments will be subject to satisfactory Criminal Records Office check. Having a criminal record however will not exclude anyone from applying, or being considered for appointment.
Applicants who do not hold UK or EC citizenship, or are not otherwise entitled to residency/working rights in the UK, will require visa clearance for employment in the UK. You should check your entitlement for entry clearance with your local British Consulate prior to making your application.
